The management team have been reviewing the results of our Premier Pathways programme, established to help develop careers in care across Bristol, and the results have been eye-opening.
This scheme was introduced at Premier Homecare to help tackle one of the biggest ongoing issues facing the care sector, namely that of staff retention.
Our research has highlighted that over 20% of our workforce have been working with us for 10 years or more, whilst a staggering 30% of our workforce has been working with us for five years or more. This is a superb result for Bristol care.
There has been a big push in recent years by care industry regulatory body the CQC to monitor and develop the leadership within care companies in Bristol. There has been a shortage of leaders in the care industry, and the CQC has asked Bristol care companies to focus from within, to develop new leaders.
At Premier Homecare, we have always been acutely focused on offering a career path with real progression to all of our care workers. This helps to develop confidence and builds care workers resilience and leadership skills.
The leaders of tomorrow are to be found within the current care workers of today, and we firmly believe that the best talent is there to be nurtured.
We, of course, have a stringent and high-quality recruitment process and provide all of our care workers with ongoing mentoring, training and support.
The Premier Pathways programme centres upon giving opportunities to all of our care workers, nurturing and developing their natural talent. Career progression is available to all of our care staff in Bristol.
Some of the tools and techniques we utilise at Premier Homecare include supportive induction, a happy and positive place to work, ongoing learning and development, good working conditions, as well as rewards and recognition for all of our care staff and support workers across Bristol.
For example, at Premier Homecare, we offer full-time and part-time positions, with QFC Level 2 and upwards being preferred for all roles. All of our staff complete The Care Certificate within the first three months of employment.
Some of our care career positions within Bristol include Senior Guaranteed Hours Carer, Field Trainer, Field Supervisor and Senior Supervisor.
Working in care can be challenging, so it’s critical for our care teams to know with complete confidence, that we are there for them. Our robust support network with tried-and-tested systems in place, ensure our carer workers deliver the best care services possible, whilst also developing resilience within themselves.
Resilience is the ability to cope under pressure, and a care worker who copes well under pressure is resilient. The resources and support provided through our Premier Pathways programme help care staff, team supervisors, field supervisors and team leaders to build this valuable skill.
We firmly believe that structured careers in care benefit both staff and clients.
