When interviewing for new care workers at Premier Homecare, we are often asked where are the best Home Care Assistant jobs in Bristol?
The role of a Home Care Assistant or HCA in Bristol is varied, challenging and rewarding. Our HCAs form the backbone of client-facing care services.
We feel Premier Homecare provides the best HCA jobs in Bristol, as a number of our care workers have been with us for over a decade. This clearly demonstrates how we look after our staff.
To further highlight the duties required of this home care role, we spoke to Claire Kemp, who has been a Senior Supervisor at Premier Homecare for the last four years and has more than 25 years of experience in the care sector.
How important are Home Care Assistants at Premier Homecare?
“The HCAs have a key role, and without them, we wouldn’t have a home care business. They are the primary client-facing care staff and can see up to a maximum of six clients per day.”
What duties do Home Care Assistants carry out in Bristol?
“It’s a varied domiciliary role, and the Home Care Assistants at Premier Homecare take care of a number of personal care duties as well as shopping, managing medication, housework, companionship, nutrition and hydration and daily meal preparation. Basically, everything to maintain good daily health.”
How do you support HCAs working in Bristol for Premier Homecare?
“We give all HCAs face-to-face support in the field, and see all carers working with clients. We will work alongside all carers, help them to build their confidence in the early shifts, as well as provide a fully-manned phone service that can help and be accessed by carers at any time.”
What structure is in place to provide support to Home Care Assistants?
“We have dedicated teams for all care workers. These teams are made up of Field Supervisors, Trainers and Carers. Our Supervisors cover shifts if necessary, and we support all care staff that may have any work or personal issues, such as University students under exam stress between shifts.”
How has Covid impacted the home care workers at Premier Homecare?
“There is a real sense of relief now that the restrictions have been lifted. Covid made our Home Care Assistants more valued and appreciated by clients: we were frontline staff, the same as those in the NHS. It’s so good to be able to now have more contact with clients and to support our care staff in the field.”
Why do HCAs stay for so long with Premier Homecare?
“Many HCAs have worked at Premier Homecare for more than 10 years. I’ve worked for the City Council and large home care companies, but Premier Homecare genuinely care for their staff.”
Anything else you’d like to add?
“The management team want the carers to progress, and give them ongoing support. It’s not just about providing a service, we are a family. Premier Homecare are large enough to provide a consistent home care service across Bristol but small enough to know everybody in the care teams and staff offices.”
