The question ‘Who offers the best-paid care jobs in Bristol?’ is one we hear often when interviewing applicants for home care jobs and 24-hour Live-In care roles across the city, here at award-winning Premier Homecare.
With Autumn looming, the demand for well-paid Bristol care work is rising.
Some applicants have been coming to us with concerning feedback, which we wanted to highlight, about pay levels with some other Bristol care providers.
We are hearing all too often when interviewing new care workers and healthcare assistants ‘The last care job I had was nothing like I was told it would be at interview’ with regard practically to the pay for care shifts.
We have seen candidates for care jobs across Bristol in the last month who have been offered hourly rates of £11 or £12 however, in the majority of cases this only covers their client-facing time and not any travelling time.
This means that a care worker could be on shift for seven hours including travelling time between clients, but only get paid for five hours for their client-facing time.
At Premier Homecare, all of our care workers are paid from the start to the end of each shift, including all of their travelling time in-between client visits at their hourly rate.
Other candidates have come to us in the last few months feeling disappointed about the quality of care they are able to give in roles with other care companies in Bristol. Their client visits have been 30 or even just 15 minutes in duration making their overall pay even less for an eight-hour shift with unpaid travel time.
At Premier Homecare, all of our client visits are for a minimum of one hour, meaning that our care workers provide a high level of quality care on each shift and for every private client.
Other care work candidates have been telling us at interviews they were working split shifts with other home care companies in the city. This meant that some of them were working up to 12 hours per day, with a short break in-between.
Whilst Healthcare Assistants at most hospitals in Bristol are used to working 12-hour shifts, we do not ask this of our care workers.
At Premier Homecare, none of our homecare staff is required to work more than an eight-hour shift.
We also provide our care workers with well-planned rotas, with minimal travel between calls, prepared well in advance.
These rotas are structured around specific areas of North Bristol, meaning Premier Homecare workers deliver care within a far less stressful overall environment and with much less travelling involved. The focus is on delivering quality care.
Whilst we couldn’t or wouldn’t comment on who has the best-paid care jobs in Bristol, Premier Homecare are confident that the benefits we offer, as well as the payment for an entire shift, means our pay rates are competitive.
