Bridget only joined us recently, but she’s made a big impact already and has kindly agreed to answer a series of questions about working with our award-winning Bristol home care company as a Live-In Carer with private clients.
How long have you worked in the care sector?
After previously working in the catering trade for 30 years I have now found my second vocation of care work, which I have been doing for over four fantastic years.
What do you find particularly rewarding about it?
As I am a people-person there is nothing I love more than connecting with clients, whether it be as a companion or doing more one to one care. Either way, to see that person’s face light up when you are there is such a wonderful sight, and feeling that it is me doing that and to also enable the client to stay in their much-loved home and comfortable surroundings is a real privilege.
When did you come across Premier Homecare?
Last year I worked for a short period with another home care company in Bristol, but I knew where the Premier Homecare office was, and thought I would pop in. I spoke to Tanya who was lovely and she invited me for an interview.
Why do you prefer Live-In Care work?
I prefer to work with one client, I also feel that I get to know my client and their family extremely well. I love having the rapport I have with them.
Can you describe your current role with Premier Homecare?
At present, I look after a female client who has early onset dementia. Although I do a little personal care, I feel that it is more like a companionship role. She loves to chat about the papers, and we also watch quiz programmes on TV which she enjoys. We joke about how many of the answers we know!
What is different about your care job at Premier Homecare?
I feel Premier Homecare try really hard to match you with a client suitable to you and your needs as much as the client’s.
Are there better benefits with Premier Homecare compared to other care providers, and what are they?
One huge benefit with Premier Homecare is their Helpdesk: it gives personal reassurance to know someone is just a phone call away and that they have the time to advise or to speak with you. I feel every Bristol care company should have this facility. Premier Homecare also offer cash bonuses every quarter as an incentive to not go off ill, which is fantastic.
Would you recommend Premier Homecare to other care workers, and why?
I cannot recommend Premier Homecare highly enough. The company has the clients’ needs and well-being as their top priority, as it should be. They also look after the carers extremely well. Everyone is so friendly, helpful, and all the team are so approachable.
How have you been treated by Premier Homecare as a Live-In Care Worker?
From the day I walked into the office just on the off chance until now, Premier Homecare have been fantastic to me.
What sort of training and support have you received?
Premier Homecare have a fantastic in-house training programme, plus they enrol live-in carers on other courses to keep training up-to-date. The courses have always been informative, and I personally prefer to do them in a classroom environment as we do with Premier Homecare, rather than sitting in front of a computer like my previous care company in Bristol.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I would like to add that anyone thinking of live-in care work in Bristol, or who is already in the care sector, to ring or pop into Premier Homecare’s Westbury-On-Trym head office and speak to someone as I promise them they will not look back. They are the best Bristol home care company I’ve worked for, and I cannot recommend them highly enough.
