Bristol Homecare Support Worker Meena Ansari recently celebrated 10 years with award-winning independent care provider Premier Homecare, so we decided to interview her and ask her about the decade she’s been with us.
Meena joined our Bristol care team in 2011 and has worked with us as a dedicated Homecare Support Worker ever since.
We interviewed her about her time at Premier Homecare from our Stoke Hill offices earlier this week. Here’s what she had to say about working for us:
How did you first hear about Premier Homecare?
“My sister told me about Premier as she knew I was looking for a care job.”
Had you worked in care before joining Premier Homecare and in what capacity?
“Before Premier, I worked in a nursing home for three years, with adults with learning difficulties. Before that, I was a Homecare Support Worker with another care provider.”
What sort of training have you received from Premier Homecare?
“I’ve received First Aid, Manual Handling, Dignity In Care, Clinical Skills, Medication Training and Dementia Training. I’ve had thorough training right from the start of my employment which has really helped me to carry out my care job with confidence. The trainers are helpful and very supportive.”
How has the care sector in Bristol changed over the last 10 years?
“Care has changed for the better, or at least that’s my experience from working with Premier Homecare. There wasn’t any training in the nursing home I worked for years ago and no manual handling equipment to use. In those days all clients were moved manually.”
“In my previous job, there were no records to fill in about the care I gave to my clients. It is much better now that communication has improved, as has the way I can deliver the care to my clients.”
What is your favourite part of working for Premier Homecare?
“Everything, as I really enjoy the work. Staff, carers and SU are lovely and I’ve felt very supported from the moment I joined Premier Homecare.”
How has Covid-19 affected your role in care across Bristol?
“I worked throughout the pandemic, so it didn’t feel a lot different for me – apart from wearing masks. Hand hygiene and PPE have always been used to ensure the wellbeing of SU.”
“I didn’t feel that we were ever without the necessary PPE and management at Premier Homecare always kept us informed about what was happening.”
What advice would you give to anybody thinking about a career in care?
“I would tell anyone to go into care if it’s in their heart and they want to go the extra mile to genuinely help people. Join a good care company as I did, and you will find you have a rewarding job with a huge amount of job satisfaction.”
Why have you stayed with Premier Homecare for a decade?
“Because I love care work, helping people, and the clients I visit. I feel I also work for a great company: the office staff are all great and I love working with the other teams of carers.”
“I have also felt very supported during my whole time at Premier Homecare.”
