Becoming a Premier Homecare Carer does have its rewards.
Realistically, being a care worker isn't for everyone. Yes, it's demanding and yes, it's not as comfortable and easy as a dull 9-5. It takes a special kind of person to really shine as a carer but when you do the rewards are way beyond your average 9-5 job.
Seeing the positive difference you make to someone’s life, on a daily basis, is an amazing feeling.
It is people who are driven by a desire to help others and to make people smile that make up Premier Homecare’s team of superhero homecare support workers. Home care workers’ make a difference in people’s lives every day, from basic duties such as general care and support for a person and helping with their daily tasks in their own home to just sitting down, having a cup of tea and a chat – it’s amazing to think that something as enjoyable and easy as having tea with someone can make all the difference to one person’s day!
It is not only the service user that a home care worker supports. Due to the fantastic social and communicative skills care worker’s possess they are often connected with the family, who’s lives are also impacted positively, whether it means them taking a break now and again or seeing a loved ones quality of life dramatically improve. Being a Home Care Support Worker is a very social job! As well as family members, carers get to be in contact with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, as well as ongoing support and contact from other Home Care Workers and Head Office.
Experienced and Non-experienced care workers
All Home Care Workers have to start somewhere, therefore at Premier Homecare we encourage applicants with no previous care experience, as well as, of course, more experienced carers. If a person is over the age of 18 and can demonstrate a caring, reliable and committed attitude, Premier Homecare will help develop the other skills in both ‘classroom’ and ‘field’ environments.
More experienced carers bring valuable knowledge and experience as well as qualifications. Even so, we run refresher training and induct every carer in the ‘Premier Homecare way’ of delivering care and support. Training in areas such as Manual Handling, First Aid and Food Hygiene as well as more specific advanced courses run alongside continued support throughout your career – You will never be left in a position where you do not know what to do!! Homecarers help multiple people per day, this can mean a lot of travelling, which Premier Homecare try to keep to a minimum, we also, uniquely, have compensation structures in place for travel time!! The variety of clients means some are more demanding than others, and some have greater needs and require more support than others, although this can be more difficult, it is often more rewarding. Homecare also involves some lone-working, this is where communication and being sociable kicks in, as it allows for a carer to build up an excellent and valuable relationship with the client! At Premier Homecare we pride ourselves on the level of training and support we give all our employees, and give employees the chance to progress within Premier Homecare.
Premier Homecare Workers’ compassion, quality and dedication have been a massive influence on the organisation’s outstanding reputation!
Some of the key duties carried out on a daily basis as a Homecare Worker include:
Working with clients, their families and other health professionals to follow a personalised client care plan to meet the client’s needs
Providing personal care to clients depending on these needs (assisting them with washing/feeding/dressing etc.)
Aiding a client with other every day or physical tasks, such as shopping, cleaning, cooking or studying
More nursing-orientated role, administering medication, washing and changing dressings
The way we do things at Premier Homecare means all workers have a carefully planned daily rota of visits. A pattern of work is prepared a week in advance for each carer as we understand that carer’s have other commitments also and need to plan their lives outside of work! This also allows time for questions to be asked and queries answered. Every service user has a care plan for the Home Care Worker to follow, to ensure we are caring for each person’s particular needs, each carer is thoroughly briefed before their first call to a new client. If any of our carers need any support or help at any time there is always a Senior Carer or member of the management team on hand to help deal with any unplanned events.
So is being a Homecare Worker right for me?
To be successful as a Premier Homecare Home Care Worker, having a passion (and patience) for helping people is essential. Our carers all have exceptional communication skills and must be tactful and sensitive with clients at all times.
Demonstrating a reliable and committed attitude will also be required

A friendly and approachable nature (good sense of humour also helpful)
Ability to build relationships with clients and their families, and put them at ease
Patience and sensitivity
The ability to keep calm under pressure, as clients may sometimes be aggressive or anxious
